Last Wednesday on Watts Up Sports Hour, Coach Donald Watts laid it out: his mission is to double the number of Seattle-area Division 1 college basketball prospects over the next four years. Through Watts Basketball, he’s building strategic and effective ways to make it happen.
Coach Watts’ Mission: Scaling Impact and Changing Lives
You know him. You’ve felt the energy. Coach Donald’s mission is all about transforming lives in the community through what he knows best: basketball. And today, that fire burns brighter than ever.
“My thing is just changing lives. And I got more energy for that mission today than maybe ever.” – he said.
After overcoming the trials of the pandemic, surviving a stroke, and caring for his father, Coach Donald has found new fuel for an old calling. His heart has never wavered—but his intensity, his clarity, and his commitment has been stronger than ever; he’s been more intentional about serving kids in the community. And through Watts Basketball, he’s turning that energy into action.

The Plan: Developing College-Level Athletes with Precision
Coach is kicking off a project that will enroll 15 dedicated players from four age groups:
- -Middle School
- -High School Underclassmen
- -High School Upperclassmen
- -Junior College & College Athletes
This is more than training—it’s a full-scale development initiative designed to help serious hoopers from the community reach the college level, especially the ones often overlooked by traditional recruiting pipelines.
“We could do better for that second-tier college kid… They’re doing what the top-tier kids are doing, but it’s not a one-size-fits-all.” – Coach Watts explained.

A Better Way: Strategic, Purpose-Driven Development
For years, Watts Basketball has been quietly transforming athletes through quality coaching, mentorship, as well as building the right mindset and valuable life skills. Now, Coach Donald is scaling that work—creating a system that’s not just reactive but intentional.
He’s studied the scene: the hype cycles, the showcase circuits, the endless content grind. And while those things have their place, they’re not delivering the results that matter most.
He said, “There’s a lot of wasted movement—tournaments, trainers, tweets—and only a handful of kids get real opportunities. We’re going to do it better.”
Raising the Bar: Doubling College Opportunities
Right now, only 10 or 11 players from the class of 2025 statewide have D1 offers. Coach Donald wants to change that—starting by doubling those numbers.
This means creating a more strategic recruiting path, aligned development tracks, and community partnerships with those who truly know what it takes. Through Watts Basketball, Coach is launching a movement to turn hidden potential into real college opportunities.
On the latest Watts Up Sports Hour, Coach Watts breaks down his mission to give overlooked athletes the real shot they deserve. Not every path is the same. He's ready to change the hype machine that's failing our kids.

Right Athlete, Right People, Right Programming: Doubling Seattle's D1 Pipeline in Four Years
“We want to be the basketball hotbed—not just for number one picks with max deals—but for the guys that played with them, too.” – Coach Watts concluded.
Watts Basketball is laying the groundwork for a new era: where every serious athlete—regardless of ranking or hype—gets a fair shot to succeed. Where the development path fits the player. Where the mission is clear: Change lives. Build futures. Raise the bar.
