In this debut episode, we’re excited to provide you with a sneak peek into the essence of our podcast, shed light on the remarkable journey that has brought us here, and, most importantly, illustrate how our podcast is poised to be a guiding light for all those pursuing their dreams in college basketball.
A Family of College Basketball Success
You might wonder why I decided to start the College Prospects Podcast. Well, it’s rooted in my own basketball journey, from being an unknown middle school player to becoming the top recruit in the northwest and a top-five recruit on the entire West Coast. My father, a former NBA player, passed down his knowledge and taught me the ropes. It’s a journey that I believe can help countless athletes and their families who aspire to achieve similar goals.
Over the last 12 years, I’ve dedicated myself to passing on this knowledge. I’ve successfully helped hundreds of athletes secure college basketball opportunities. Now, I want to take it a step further and share my insights with a broader audience through this podcast.
My daughter is playing Division II basketball on a full-ride scholarship at Western Washington University, and my son earned a full-ride scholarship to Washington State University. Their journeys are testaments to the process I’ve honed over the years.
The Changing Landscape of College Basketball
While the fundamentals of the game remain constant, the landscape of college basketball recruitment has shifted significantly. The opportunities are abundant, but so are the challenges. In today’s world, more people are involved in youth basketball than ever before, offering both opportunities and potential pitfalls. Navigating through this crowded space is essential, and distinguishing between those who genuinely understand the process and those who might lead you astray is crucial.
Time is of the Essence
One crucial aspect to remember in the world of college basketball prospects is that time is precious. Achieving the goal of playing college basketball is a dream that only a small percentage of high school players will realize. Just 5% will make it to the college level, and a mere 1% will play Division I. Given these slim chances, you can’t afford to waste time. Every opportunity must be maximized, and readiness is the key to capitalizing on those opportunities. An opportunity is only an opportunity if you’re fully prepared to seize it; otherwise, it can become a distraction.
Building a Community of Knowledge
The College Prospects Podcast is not just about one person; it’s about creating a supportive community. It’s about all of us coming together to help athletes and their families succeed in their basketball journeys. The podcast will feature discussions on a wide range of topics, addressing your questions and concerns, and bringing in guest experts, including former players and coaches.
What to Expect in Future Episodes
Most of our episodes will be bite-sized, around 10 minutes each. However, we plan to have some special 30-minute shows with guest appearances. We’re open to extending those if the conversation is too good to wrap up in just half an hour. So, stay tuned for those exciting discussions.
Two Key Takeaways for Prospects
As we wrap up this first episode, we want to leave you with two key takeaways:
- Establish Your Standards: Set your own standards based on your goals and dreams. Live up to those standards daily.
- Embrace Struggle: Understand that this journey isn’t easy. It’s filled with ups and downs. Be prepared to embrace the struggle as a stepping stone to your success.
Always Remember, it’s not just my show; it’s our community. So, share your questions, concerns, and experiences. Let’s work together to put your kids in the best position to achieve their basketball dreams.
