Fundamentals First or Fail

Nowadays it seems like all players want to shoot like Steph, dribble like I.T and finish like Kyrie. But rarely is the question asked, what did those NBA greats do to acquire that skill level? The answer is more than just the cliché “hard work” or “ten thousand hours” the secret lies in the attention to detail and consistent application of the fundamentals. For example, when asked about his unparalleled finishing ability Kyrie credited his daily Mikan layup routine which dates back to 1924. This may not sound as appealing as wearing a weight vest, dribbling between cones, jumping in the air, gyrating multiple times and throwing the ball at the basket but is undeniably more effective!
